Heritage Center Receives Preservation Award

The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center was the recipient of the 2008 Oklahoma Territory Organizational Award for Preservation of State and Local History presented by the Oklahoma Heritage Association. Awards were received at The Oklahoma Heritage Association Annual Membership Meeting & Awards Luncheon held on March 26 at the new Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

The award honors organizations that are committed to preserving state and local history. Two organizational awards were given, one in former Oklahoma Territory and the other in former Indian Territory. The Rogers County Historical Society in Claremore was chosen as the 2008 preservation organization in former Indian Territory. Along with the honor of being chosen, each organization received a $5,000 cash prize.

Editorial Award: Muskogee Phoenix, Muskogee
Excellence in Teaching: Janet Bass, Edmond and Earl Dalke, Davis
Distinguished Service: Ken Greenwood, Tulsa
